Xbox uninstall game updates
Basically, the issue at hand is that some games installed via Game Pass cannot be removed from a storage location using any of the traditional methods. For example, if you have installed Gears Tactics on E Drive and try to uninstall it using the standard uninstallation method in Game Pass, the process will complete as though an uninstallation has occurred. However, if you visit the installation location all the games files remain. If you then try to manually remove those files, you will get an error message stating that the files are in use and that you cannot remove them.
Sadly there are only two troubleshooting steps you can use to solve this problem. Once you are in this location make sure Delivery Optimization Files is ticked then click Remove files to clear out any leftover game files. The second is to physically unplug the drive where the games are installed on your computer. Disconnect the SATA and power cables. Wait about a minute then reconnect the drive to your computer. Once the drive reappears you should be able to manually delete the files from the installation location using File Explorer.
The simple answer is to format the drive by right-clicking it and selecting Format from the list of options. This will wipe the drive clean and remove everything on it. Happened to me as well. It was quite a while ago so it's not new. Absolutely ridiculous. Jawmuncher Crisis Dino Moderator. Oct 25, 24, Ibis Island. Yeah, not being able to play while updating is the biggest issue I have personally. Like damn, let me play Witcher 3 the download is going and just let me know when you wanna kick me out to apply it.
Oh, right. It does say cancel beside pause. That's misleading. I forgot about that, because I'm used to pressing the menu button and selecting to uninstall games that way. Or to pause downloads that way. KingdomHeartsFan Member. Oct 29, Wow that's such a backwards thing to do. Continental 0p said:. My guess is that most people just don't realize it's a thing. Which isn't really surprising, as canceling an update isn't really a common occurrence.
Even with bad internet, not being able to play while the game updates is a bigger issue. I wonder if patches download and install at the same time instead of installing after it's all downloaded. That's the only possible reason I can think of for these problems. Equanimity Member. Oct 27, 12, London. Yup, this has happened to me as well. RedOnePunch Member. Oct 26, 2, Risev Member. Oct 27, 1, Yeah so this just happened to me. Wanted to play RDR2. Told me there was an update available.
I started it and saw it was 2 gigs. I also remembered reading a couple of weeks ago about the most recent update downgrading graphics, so I thought I might as well pause it for now and play the game without updating.
Started the game, turns out I can't play while the update it ongoing even if is paused. Clicked cancel on the update note it said cancel, not uninstall , and the whole game is now gone.
This game is more or less gigs, and just like that, poof. I have a 1 Tb monthly limit and I share the internet with my family. Downloading the game again now would maybe leave us without enough to last the month without having to pay extra. So I reiterate the sentiment expressed throughout this topic: How is this not a bigger deal?

Found out the hard way today. Do you mean console updates or game updates? You can set your console too automatic update by setting instant on and automatic updates. If your getting 3 or 4 console updates a week then your in the preview program and thats why your getting them.
